Madison.com reports that: Madison School Board member Burke spent $128,000 to win seat

I supported Mary Burke’s opponent Michael Flores in the race, and looking back, I’m not sure what he could have done differently to win the race since he was outspent almost 12 to 1.

I also find it a little amusing that Mary Burke cites MTI’s alleged negative campaigning when she sent out this attack mailer.

“I had certainly not expected to spend so much, but then MTI came out very negatively and aggressively,” Burke said. “I thought it was important that I was able to communicate who I was and how I could help move the community forward.”

I hope that the ability to write a $100,000 check doesn’t become a de facto requirement for running for school board.
