The Recall Walker Movement is Being Lead by Wisconsinites!

The right-wing is working to counteract the recall of Governor Scott Walker by asserting that the recall isn’t driven by people in state; instead, they are saying it is being driven by national political leaders. This is ridiculous. The effort to recall Governor Scott Walker is being driven from the ground up by Wisconsinites. Without the anger that Scott Walker has provoked in everyday people, we wouldn’t even be talking about a recall.
As you’ll note, Wisconsin Democratic Chair Mike Tate intitially wanted a November 2012 recall election date:
Asked about a potential recall, he said: “The most likely scenario, and one that the Democratic Party will support, is a recall effort of Governor Walker in November of 2012.”
…but because of all the people who are clamoring for a recall, it’s happening on a much quicker timeline because Governor Scott Walker is doing too much damage to our state. A few more months could be disastrous. The Recall Walker movement is being driven by regular Wisconsinites who are mad that Governor Scott Walker has gone too far by:
1. Attacking collective bargaining rights for state workers.
2. Weakening basic environment standards related to clean air and water (Water and air are necessary for human life you know…)
3, Working to destroy public education by making drastic cuts.
4. Handing out special favors to well-connected donors and political allies – We should have a government that is fair.
Where do they think all the people who volunteered to gather signatures to recall the Republican state senators came from? All the people who signed the recall petitions? From Mars? The protests at the Capital were driven by people from Wisconsin. It wasn’t planned from the top-down. People got mad about what Scott Walker was doing to the state, and then, crazily enough, a bunch of them all showed in the same place in the freezing cold. It’s not easy to get that many people to stand in the freezing cold (outside of a Packers game).
To address one issue that Christian Schneider, of the right-wing National Review, brings up:
The timing of the announcement was odd, and some would say a bit telling. Tate made his announcement on national cable television as the Milwaukee Brewers were choking away game two of the National League Championship Series to the St. Louis Cardinals. (Bitterness intentional.) While the entire state was watching the Brewers try to make their first World Series in 29 years, Tate was making the biggest political announcement of the year — which signals that the recall effort isn’t a state effort, but one handed down from the national Democratic political machine.
Two things:
1. This was probably planned in advance of the Brewers playoff schedule. In addition, with the way Wisconsin sports are going this year, something good might be happening on a lot of days.
2. Check this:
Supporters of recalling Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will have until Jan. 17 to collect more than 540,000 signatures to force an election sometime in the spring.
A spokesman for the Government Accountability Board, which oversees elections, said Tuesday the deadline will be a little later since it falls on a Saturday and the following Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In any case, I’ll guess we’ll see what happens in the next 90 days.
