Wisconsin Brandy

An interesting article over at Curb: Brandy: A Wisconsin Tradition

The article examines why people in Wisconsin drink more brandy than people in other states. Of the reasons they give, I find the link to Wisconsin’s German heritage the most compelling reason. (It also explains Sheepshead‘s popularity in WI) I found it a fascinating read.

I had just one small issue with it: The article implies that Yahara Bay Distillers* is the only Wisconsin brandy maker. So I’d just like to note that there is also: Great Lakes Distillery and AppleTreow has announced that they put their brandy in the barrel on their Facebook page.. Not sure where they are available in the Madison area, although Star’s Liquor on Willy St has an excellent selection of Great Lakes products. But yeah, I just wanted to point that out.

Anyways, keep enjoying the Brandy Old Fashioneds…

*Yahara Bay Distillers: I’ve never had their brandy (although their white rum is pretty good).
